Fimma and Movelsul together in 2022

The two major fairs for the furniture industry in Brazil - Fimma and Movelsul - are joining forces in order to hold their next editions in the same period and to integrate the entire woodworking industry from March 14 to 17, 2022 at the Parque de Eventos de Bento Gonçalves (RS). The unprecedented decision in the history of the associations responds to exceptional circumstances and offers a new date aligned with the world calendar of events in the sector. The announcement was made on Friday by the presidents of the organizers of the trade shows, the Furniture Industry Association of Rio Grande do Sul (Movergs) and the Furniture Industry Association of Bento Gonçalves (Sindmóveis).
As Movelsul is already scheduled for March 2022, the date also offers a window of opportunity to exhibitors at Fimma within the worldwide calendar of events. Together, the fairs will gather in the same exhibition space the entire woodworking industry including machines, technology, design, services, inputs, accessories and tools in addition to furniture manufacturers and national and international retailers. This is not a merger, but rather two important fairs for the international furniture industry being held at the same time and place, in a timely decision that responds to exceptional circumstances. Holding Fimma and Movelsul simultaneously will result in the participation of more than 400 exhibitors.
Traditionally, the fairs are held in alternating years. Fimma, focusing on the exhibition of machines, raw materials and accessories, takes place in odd years and was scheduled to be held in April 2021, but it had to be postponed due to uncertainties in the business environment and the Covid pandemic. Movelsul, which takes place in even years with the participation of exhibitors of furniture and decoration items, could not be held in March 2020 because of the rapid global escalation of Covid-19.
The president of Movergs, Rogério Francio, points out that after Fimma was postponed, the board and technical team of the organizations involved focused on an analysis of the situation, which showed many benefits in having a combination of efforts, especially for the features the two fairs have in common. “The world is heading toward issues of shared economy and investment enhancement. Moreover, the acceleration of trends is a movement that we have been able to follow in all sectors as a result of the pandemic. Therefore, the proposal sounds very coherent and natural," he says.
Similarly, the president of Fimma, Euclides Rizzi, believes that although this is an exceptional situation in the face of the business environment and the current pandemic, it is also a new way of viewing the sector, joining forces. "At the moment, Fimma and Movelsul's greatest interest is to organize two events that support each other providing business opportunities in the same place to the entire woodworking industry," he says.
The president of Sindmóveis and Movelsul, Vinicius Benini, rejoiced at the opportunity to hold the two fairs simultaneously. In his opinion, the exhibitors at both fairs have a lot to gain from the proposal, as well as the tourism industry in Bento Gonçalves. "We believe that there will be a favorable business environment in 2022, which will result in great prospects for both Fimma and Movelsul. In fact, we are living in a context of such fast changes that the success of this partnership may even lead us to new perspectives after the joint event is held in March 2022", he says.
About the furniture industry
Rio Grande do Sul (RS) is the leading furniture producer in the country. It has approximately 2,800 furniture factories generating approximately 35,000 direct jobs. The state is also the second largest furniture exporter in Brazil. The main companies in the state have an international reputation in the production of residential furniture.
Bento Gonçalves is home to the main furniture manufacturing center in Brazil when it comes to technology, innovation and production. Some 300 companies are based in the city and the surrounding area that includes Monte Belo do Sul, Pinto Bandeira and Santa Tereza.
As an association that locally represents the furniture industry, Sindmóveis has been promoting, since 1977, a development scenario for the local and national furniture industry by representing its members and providing action plans to support them, promoting political negotiations, commercial initiatives and innovative programs.
Currently, the furniture industry in Bento Gonçalves accounts for 27.2% of the state's revenues. This representativeness is the reason why the state furniture industry association, Movergs, was founded and has had its headquarters in Bento Gonçalves since 1987.
In October 2020, the associations announced their administrative merger - which means they have their operations conducted by a unique technical team, but with distinct boards made up of entrepreneurs and executives from the furniture sector who work voluntarily.

The International Fair for the Woodworking Industry Suppliers (Fimma Connections and Business) is one of the largest fairs of its segment in the world and aims to support the development of the sector through the exhibition of cutting-edge technologies, inputs and equipment that will be transformed into business opportunities. The event, held for 14 times since 1993, has recently been redesigned with the establishment of a series of platforms and initiatives aimed at innovation and solutions, which have made Fimma a permanent part of the exhibitors' reality. In 2019 during its last edition, Fimma received 23,657 visitors from 30 countries.
About Movelsul Brasil
Movelsul Brasil is the main furniture fair in Latin America in terms of exhibition area, number of exhibitors and professional visitors. Having been held 21 times since 1977 by Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves, the show takes place every two years at the largest furniture manufacturing center in the country: an event with great business potential in the domestic market attracting shopkeepers, major retail chains, corporate buyers, investors, architects and the interest of importers from the main target markets of the Brazilian furniture industry. The last show, held in 2018, received 30,284 professional visitors from 33 countries.
